C. 1924 Nifty Toy Co. Maggie & Jiggs Litho Tin Wind-up Toy Made in Germany

  
Offered for sale is a beautiful and very hard to find example of Nifty Toy Company's "Maggie & Jiggs" lithographed tin wind-up toy manufactured sometime in the 1920's in Germany under license from International Features Syndicate & George McManus Mr. McManus was the cartoonist who created the Bringing Up Father comic strip that featured.

The toy measures about 5 1/4" tall x 7 1/4" long and is in wonderful condition for a piece of this vintage: the colors and the detail are still strong, there are no breaks, cracks, or discoloration, and the seams are tight. The windup mechanism works well: turn the key to wind and watch Maggie and Jiggs dip forward and back while trying to clobber one another as the toy travels backward and forward. Though it has a bit of playwear, this would still be rated as "very fine" to "excellent" and would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
